ABOUT THE EVENT

If you’re looking for creative inspiration then you’ve come to the right place. Over the two day conference we’ll be looking at British creativity – what is unique about it, how and why it’s been successful on a global stage, and what as an industry and creative individuals, we can do to develop, adapt and survive in a world that’s constantly changing.

We’re honoured to have Sir John Hegarty, Tony Kaye and One Minute Briefs, three legends of the adverting industry, sharing their fascinating insights. ;) We’re also looking outside our industry for inspiration, to film, music, design, art and fashion, with a host of sessions that will give you different ways of thinking and new perspectives. This conference is about celebrating creativity, helping us to be bolder and better at telling engaging stories that bring audiences, content and brands together.

It promises to be an inspiring, challenging and entertaining conference.

Slightly topical brief with it being November 5th! Hope you've all had a great evening!

Some really high quality winners. Some entries went into firework safety but we feel that the winners really advertise fireworks well.

In no particular order the winners are:

@la_acheson with 'paint your canvas' epic idea. Love the idea of the sky being your canvas.

@alvo_muses with 'children's delight' Great piece of copy.

@dognbonesjones with 'for display purposes only' Quality would be great for POS too.

@LarnerC with the neck brace visual. Brilliantly simple.

and a special mention for our youngest ever OMBLE Evie with this great etch-a-sketch piece at just 1 year old! @Placey80

Amazing stuff!

One Minute Brief WINNER: Create a Thank You ad for NABS

One Minute Brief WINNER:
Create a Thank You ad for NABS

Yesterday's brief was an excellent opportunity to work with the brilliant organisation of NABS. The brief was to create an ad to thank all the supporters of NABS in it's 100th year.

We had a fantastic response and are really pleased that the spirit of NABS came out in a lot of the work. NABS have been in touch with us to give us their winners but they are chuffed with the level of interaction and entries. Check them out here: http://www.nabs.org.uk/

We are hoping to work with NABS on lots of new projects in the future and hope you will all play an important role in them too.

Two ads really stood out to NABS so there is a bottle of champagne to give away to the winner and runner-up. The winner's work will also be used and credited as a full page press ad in Campaign magazine. Can't wait to see it!

The overall winner who's work will be features is @robertgorton with 'advertising's longest running campaign' a fantastic line that is bang on brief and really reflects the work NABS so as well as thanking their supporters.

The runner up is @jay_pegg with 'for the good and bad' a brilliant sentiment that was also really liked. Great visual along with the line. Bottle of champagne for you.

Please can you both e-mail us with your address to sort out prizes and next steps.

Thanks to everyone who got involved. You have all played a great part in spreading the word about NABS and the work they do. It really is appreciated.

Time

Creative Account
November 4, 2013

The following piece is a Guest Post by Adele Mitchinson.
Relates really well to our @OneMinuteBriefs concept.

Time.

The hour glass filled with sand slips through the pitt and ends on a pile of minutes past.

How many minutes today did you spend procrastinating? How many did you spend on idol thoughts? How many did you waste not thinking of anything at all?

I once heard a story, of which I cannot confirm its legitimate substance, however the idea made me think. Einstein was supposed to have one set of clothes, but multiple pairs. Same shirt, same trousers, same socks, same under crackers. The idea being that he needed to use all of his attention on thinking of great and profound things. So by eliminating the need to think about his clothes freed up a little bit more thinking time.

Now imagine for a moment that you could strip your day of every thought, useful and not so useful. Place it into a box and explore something else. Collate all the time you wasted. Could you have solved that brief that's driving you crazy? Complete another degree? Find the cure for world hunger?

I would like to conduct a small social experiment. Tomorrow morning when you wake try and make a record of all the time you could have used while you were waiting for a file to save, or watching the kettle boil or picking out those matching socks.

We all own the full 60 seconds in a minute, it's what we do with it that sets us apart.

One Minute Brief WINNERS:
Anti-Gun Campaign

Often we try and keep the briefs fun but it is good to have some serious ones in the mix to keep it challenging. And you didn't let us down. There were some fantastic entries to this brief as you can see in the winners below.

@hellonaomi_ & @tobysyer with 'there's no respawn in real life' We live in an age where gaming is part of common knowledge and is more real than ever so this line works really well.

@wavey_gravy with 'Stick 'em up' Love the opposite of copy and image here.

@danniyelldesign with a similar idea about putting your hands up. Strong collaborative idea could be in this one.

@PWCFreelance with a great fact based ad. 'what more ammunition'? Brilliant thought.

@matthew__wyatt with 'children see, children do' Hard hitting image and line here.

@emmalydz with 'the only guns you should have possession of.' A more light-hearted approach but this could be a good initiative to get kids out of crime and into gyms etc and could be a big idea in this.

@lpbiesty with 'No Guns. No Excuses.' What an excellent line and campaignable thought.

@rebeccakidley with '2 lives ended' Superb line. Makes you think. That's the main thing here.

Thanks to all who entered.

One Minute Brief WINNERS: Anti-Halloween Campaign

One Minute Brief WINNERS:
Anti-Halloween Campaign

Brilliant response to this brief resulted in lots of fun ideas, clever ideas and some serious ones too. A great mix. All with merit in their own way.

We thought an anti-halloween brief would be more interesting than just halloween and were proved right with a great day for OMBS.

Lots of winners today due to a high level of quality and quantity of entries.

Winners:

@mr_al with this very simple child protection ad. Fantastic copy.

@hellonaomi_ with a good use of Jimmy Saville to create a thought provoking ad.

@joe_from_cp with 'stupid one minute briefs' Totally different approach as a bit of fun and made us laugh.

@NickCanDo with 'except' using a parody that goes against everything we've ever been taught. Very strong.

@PWCFreelance with 'make it go away' brilliant line alongside a knock knock joke style.

@stephenhunter21 with a hard hitting religious ad. 'renounce halloween' Funny yet also serious.

@dognbonesjones with 'RIP off' and '£8 billion' Can't help thinking these ads should be combined into one though!

@matthew__wyatt with 'treat yourself' love how it is actually a positive ad for a brand that says anti-halloween indirectly.

@chrismillar89 with 'Hallowean' This could be a huge campaign. Great idea and funny too.

@tonysimmons with 'fuck halloween' The silliest idea of the day but we like silly and it gets your attention!

@owenjevans with a bit of a down to earth self promotion style ad. Nice stuff.

Thanks to all who entered.

A topical brief today with some nice results. Above all, everyone is having fun with their ideas which is extremely important.

Also liking the pumpkin head versions of myself and James sent to us by David Webb and Stephen Hunter. Love it!

@skynewsman with 'big kids' Nice ad for the adult market ;)

@atAlexGoddard with 'the only time it's acceptable to have an orange face' Hilarious.

@chrisod1993 with a nice product benefit about decorating your house as well as your recipes.

The Haunt

Creative Account
October 28, 2013
A few months ago we were enjoying the Summer around our pool at McCann Manchester and discussing the grounds of Bonis Hall with fellow staff members.

We soon discovered that the old gatekeeper's house at the front of the drive was empty. It was then that lightbulbs started flashing above our heads. Just a few days prior to this discovery, McCann Manchester had been given a prize fund by McCann Worldgroup for winning McCann agency of the year, so what could we possibly do with the money?

Yes...you guessed it. Make a pub for us all. It was the obvious choice.

One thing about McCann Mcr being based in the country setting of Prestbury is that we can't just nip round the corner to the pub for a quick drink after work. So we thought...let's bring the pub to us! We think that social is very important to a good working environment and felt that this would be a great way to impact on this positively.

After pitching our idea, we were given permission the very next day to make it happen and it was no easy task but the facilities team and the gardeners did an amazing job in collaboration with us. 3 months later and we have a fully functional pub complete with Games Room, pool table, open wood burner and Chill Room. Why 'Chill' room? Well that's where we like to chill and play on the PlayStation. Oh..and it's where the ghost lives. Our pub is also haunted. Hence it's name 'The Haunt'.

Since opening on Friday the 13th September, we have used the pub for meetings, briefings, Fifa and pool tournaments and parties. Not bad for a place of work!

Very grateful to McCann for allowing us to make this happen as it is definitely one of our proudest achievements. One that we hope people can enjoy for years to come.

Below are a few pictures. Tweet us your thoughts :) @BOC_ATM
